thailand snakes identification Penang Hill Trail Running, Penang Island, Malaysia

Penang Hill on Penang Island, Malaysia has an awesome running / hiking trail that I review for you here. It is a 6.4 kilometer (3.9 mile) trail through the Malaysia forest that ends at the peak (Bukit Bendera), also known as "Penang Hill".

This is a challenging hike that will take you at least two hours to complete. If you are a runner, or in good shape, you might do it in an hour. It took me 65 minutes at the fastest, and I run hills a lot in Thailand.

Bring water! There is water at the 4.5 km point where the trail crosses the paved road. The spigot there has fresh spring water that people drink. The climb is hot and exhausting.

At the top of the mountain, at the peak, is a lot going on. You could take the Air Tram down the hill, pay a Jeep $21 USD (70 RM), or run back down the trail or the paved road.

This trail run up Penang Hill was the most fun I've had in the forest on trails - ever. It combines a little bit of everything. For the full article about my trail running experience here, see:
